Lithium Ferro Phosphate (LFP) Chemistry is comparatively more thermally stable than its counter part Lithium Ion battery chemistry. With recent research, Energy Density of LFP battery is getting more closer to Li-ion Battery. There are some certain pros and cons of using the LFP battery. For example, on one side LFP batteries have flat voltage profile across the SOC, longer operating life cycles, very low chances of thermal runway, but still these batteries are inferior in terms of power delivery and energy density. In the applications like energy storage for stationary systems (like solar/wind energy storage, Online UPS), LFP is primary choice. Even these day, LFP batteries are preferred for E-Rickshaw, E-Truck and other heavy load electric vehicle applications.

– Yes these cells are rated for higher discharge rating and can supply the current required by Electric Vehicle.

What are the issue one can face when using LFP cells for EV Applications?
-LFP cells are more prone to voltage unbalancing and when a BMS without or with just passive balancing is not able to keep the voltage level of individual cells same, BMS would observe some error and result of which would be sudden power drop (zero voltage at battery terminal).

What is the charging time?
-It would take 2 hrs to charge the cell with 3000mA. This cell is rated for 0.5C so maximum safe charging current is 3000mA.

How deep this cell can be discharged?
-It is best practice not discharge the cell below 2.8V. However LFP battery has flat voltage profile across most of the State of Charge (SoC)

what are the no of cycles and depth of discharge?
-No of operating life cycles (charge+discharge considered as one cycle) depends on various factors like charging-discharging current, operating temperature, depth of discharge. Ideally these cycles are 1800 to 2000 cycles at 80% depth of discharge. It is best practice to put the battery on charging one the battery is discharged down to 40% and never leave the battery fully charged and discharged.
